 Supplies:

1) worsted yarn (all colors are great: striping, solids, tonal–these guys look great in anything) and a contrasting color for the tail.

2) long circular needles (32 inches or longer)

3) sewing needle with floss or a yarn needle.  your preference.

Class is $10, plus any supplies you need from the shop.  The class is limited to 6 people.  There is a 10% discount on supplies if you are taking the class!

Circular Knitting Workshop - Essential Techniques to Master Knitting in the Round

Hi! It’s Leslie here. I’m out of town Thursday March 15th, so CATE is teaching a class on the beaded scarf kits she has in the shop that day from 6-8PM. Here’s her sample:

Knitting Socks for Beginners – Saturday, March 17th, from 1 to 3 pm.

During the class you will knit a “baby sock” (also works as a Xmas tree ornament) to learn the essentials of sock construction. Basic knitting skills are required – if you can knit a hat you are in good shape. You will receive 3 patterns (written by Sandy Kulik) and hand-out charts for making socks that fit. Materials needed include sport or DK weight yarn (leftovers are fine) and size 2 or 3 needles. One long circular needle for “magic loop”, two shorter circulars or DPNs, will all work, however, patterns are written for “magic loop.” Once you finish the class sock you will be all set to knit your own adult sized socks!

Cost: $10.00 plus supplies

The “Hand in Hand” Fingerless mitts are a good stepping stone to learning how to make socks. They are great for the weather we have here in Southwest Virginia – they keep your hands warm enough but still let you grab your keys and dial your cell phone.

So join us on Saturday, March 3rd from 1-3 PM. Class cost is $10. Cate will have kits with pattern, yarn and stitchmarkers at 10% off for people signing up for the class. If you have them, bring size 2 (or maybe 1.5) needles – otherwise they are available in the shop. I use two 16” circulars but the pattern works fine with either magic loop or DPNs. If you want to buy the pattern online and bring your own yarn and stitchmarkers you’ll need 50 grams of fingering weight yarn and 2 stitchmarkers.

Introduction to drop spindling with Courtney Vengrin
We will be venturing in to the world of the drop spindle! It’s a great way to start spinning if you’ve never tried it before. Drop spindling is more slow and controlled than wheel spinning and learning this technique can give you more control over your yarn’s twist and thickness. This is the most basic level of spinning so we will be starting with basic fiber and spindle knowledge so even someone who has never touched a spindle or roving can learn this technique! Don’t be afraid to try!
